Same side: Parent and caregivers conversation guide – The manosphere
This publication is a practical guide developed by UN Women National Committee, United Kingdom and the Vodafone Foundation to help parents, carers, and guardians talk with young people about the manosphere and harmful online misogyny. As young people spend more of their lives online, many encounter content that promotes rigid ideas about masculinity, hostility toward women and girls, and distorted views of relationships.
The guide explains what the manosphere is, how young people may be exposed to it through social media, gaming, video platforms, and online communities, and why its messages can affect self-esteem, relationships, peer culture, and attitudes toward gender equality. It outlines warning signs adults can look out for, including changes in behaviour, secrecy around online activity, shifts in language, and the use of misogynistic terms or stereotypes.
Designed to be accessible and action-oriented, the guide provides conversation prompts and practical tips for building trust, strengthening media literacy, discussing online content, supporting girls, managing screen time realistically, and challenging gender stereotypes in everyday life. Its central message is simple: adults do not need to have all the answers, but open, calm, and consistent conversations can help young people question harmful content, seek support, and build healthier understandings of equality, respect, and masculinity.
