Humanitarian action annual report 2024

This report presents key results in humanitarian action achieved by UN Women, in close collaboration with partners, including local women’s organizations, UN agencies, and governments, across 43 crisis and displacement contexts in 2024. Against the backdrop of increasing conflict, climate emergencies, displacement, and gender backlash, the report highlights UN Women’s efforts and impact at the global, regional, and country levels in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of crisis-affected women and girls.

In 2024, almost 300 million people needed humanitarian assistance worldwide, with women and girls disproportionately affected. Despite facing heightened risks, they led frontline responses and shaped recovery efforts in their communities. This report outlines the achievements of UN Women’s humanitarian work in different areas—coordination, data, service delivery, and localization—and showcases examples of how this work has impacted UN-led humanitarian response, women-led organizations, and crisis-affected women and girls.

UN Women reached more than 1.13 million people directly—80 per cent of them women and girls—across 43 crisis-affected countries, while supporting 1,270 local women-led organizations to participate in and influence humanitarian action and decision-making. Amid shrinking resources and rising needs, the report calls for sustained investment and reform to uphold gender equality commitments and ensure that no woman or girl is left behind in crisis.
